The general descriptive term 'network time server' can apply to any instance of the Network Time Protocol (NTP) server software running on a computer/server platform. The product term, 'Network Time Server' generally applies to a rack mounted network appliance that acquires time from an external source, maintains time in its internal local clock, and supplies time to a connected network using the network time protocol NTP.
Many operational processes (business and IT related) that occur within the network depend on accurate network timing. Further, more and more applications that support eBusiness and other enterprises are dependent on conducting their functions over the Internet.
As in selecting any product or service there can be a long list of attractive features and Microchip network time servers are no different. However, the list usually can be reduced to a few critical features that make a world of difference in installing and using the server, as well as some that may seem important but are not.
GenTek representatives will almost always recommend the S650 over the S600 for several reasons:
a. The S600 and the S650 chassis cost the exact same thing.
b. The S650 has two expansion slots. The S600 has none.
c. The S650 has significantly more capability and functionality because of the two slots.
d. As new modules are released, it's likely it can be added to your S650. Since the S600 has no expansion capability, it cannot use the modules.
e. Since the chassis cost the same, the S650 provides you a "Growth Path".

Cesium Clock and Frequency References
The Microchip CsIII is a lightweight, compact, economical cesium frequency standard. The technology developed for the CsIII is an evolutionary step forward in the quest for higher stability, lower phase noise, and longer life. An ever increasing base of demanding users in communications, timing, synchronization, and other applications take advantage of this performance.
The CsIII is configured with 5 MHz and 10 MHz sinewave outputs, a 10 MHz TTL output, a 1PPS sync input, and a 1PPS timing output. All monitoring and control of the unit is done through the serial
interface and Microchip’s proprietary Monitor3 software.
Packaged in a 2U, 19-inch rack mounted chassis, the CsIII weighs less than 30 lbs. An optional portability kit and T1/E1 synthesizer are available for added functionality and versatility. The CsIII comes with a standard 1-year electronics warranty and an 8-year tube warranty.
The CsIII is ideal for SATCOM, Calibration, Metrology and many other Test and Measurement applications that require cesium stability and accuracy.
Unsurpassed accuracy, stability and reliability for demanding laboratory and field applications. Accurate, stable, and capable of delivering extremely predictable time and phase for long periods, the 5071A meets the needs of leading-edge metrology and calibration labs. Used with GPS systems, the 5071A provides master clock integration for telecommunication, satellite communication, and navigation systems.
Microchip's 5071A primary frequency standard delivers exceptional frequency stability. Thanks to a stability specification for 30-day averaging time, the 5071A can keep extremely predictable time and phase for long periods. Combined with a GPS timing receiver the 5071A primary frequency standard can produce a highly robust, inexpensive, and redundant frequency and time system.
Key Features:
1. Frequency accuracy to 5 x 10-13: he intrinsic accuracy of the cesium beam tube assures that any 5071A Option 001 will power up to within 5 x 10-13 of the accepted standard for frequency. This is achieved under full environmental conditions in 30 minutes or less- and without the need for any adjustments or alignments.
2. Long-term stability better than 1 x 10-14: The 5071A Option 001 high-performance cesium beam tube guarantees stability to be better than 1 part in 10-14 for averaging times of five days or greater. The 5071A is the first cesium standard to specify stability for averaging times longer than 100,000 seconds (approximately one day).
3. Easy to use with automatic startup and intuitive menu structure: Automatic startup is simple and requires no adjustments. A logical menu structure simplifies front-panel operations, selections, and status reporting. The 5071A can be operated and maintained anywhere. All controls are programmable, status can be checked remotely, and no adjustments or alignments are necessary during operation. An internal battery provides 45 minutes of backup in case of AC power failure
4. Proven Reliability: The 5071A has demonstrated an average mean time between failures (MTBF) of greater than 160,000 hours since its introduction in 1992
5. Robust Warranty: The 5071A Standard Performance comes standard with a 2-year electronics warranty and 10-year
tube warranty.
