Zodiac Aerospace was a French aerospace group founded in 1896 that supplies systems and equipment for aircraft. It had around 100 sites across the globe and employed nearly 35,000 people. In February 2018, Safran took control of Zodiac Aerospace, significantly expanding its aircraft equipment activities.  Zodiac Data Systems is now called Safran Data Systems. XMA Data Acquisition Unit for Aircraft OnBoard Testing

With its compact and ruggedized design, XMA is an optimal fit for remote data acquisitions in harsh and small space areas. It is the perfect candidate for network telemetry applications and remote acquisitions, to reduce the wire intrusiveness, and acquire the data closer to the sensors. XMA also allows data recording, data processing, GPS localization and data transmission. XMA has the smallest size/channel types ratio, and provides optimized module set for a large number of data type acquisitions, with state-of-the-art accuracy. A complete set of status and health information of the unit is remotely available for live monitoring and accurate data qualifiers. 

XMA-ROTOR - Full Wireless Modular Acquisition System for Helicopter Rotor Heads

The Safran Data Systems XMA-ROTOR provides high performance XMA modules technology built in a mechanical housing dedicated to helicopter rotor head instrumentation. The XMA-ROTOR replaces legacy slip ring technology offering a full wireless/contactless link between the rotor and the stator. Power is transferred via inductive coupling. Acquired data, health monitoring information, configuration data and synchronization signals are transferred over a bi-directional radio link. The XMA-ROTOR, as a standard XMA stack, is scalable and can host from 2 to 16 XMA wireless modules of various kinds: analog, digital, discrete, video… The XMA-ROTOR is designed to cope with environmental conditions of civil and military rotorcraft. Designed to operate seamlessly with existing flight test systems, the XMA-ROTOR is configured and managed as standard XMA stack and is fully compatible with Safran Data Systems architecture. 

CHAPTER 7 GATEWAY - Telemetry PCM, Video and Ethernet Multiplexer

IRIG 106 Chapter 7 is a new IRIG standard for multiplexing any type of data in a standard PCM telemetry channel. The Chapter 7 Gateway can merge several PCM outputs, Video channels and Ethernet data streams into a single standard PCM telemetry channel. The compact and highly ruggedized design allows the gateway to be installed on any type of test vehicles even in harsh environment. This versatile gateway upgrades existing instrumentation systems to the next generation of telemetry data links. 

XMA-BOX - Multiple Channel Data Acquisition Unit

The Safran Data Systems XMA-BOX provides high performance XMA modules technology in a cost effective 1U case. The XMA-BOX accepts and processes both analog and digital signals for streaming in various instrumentation data formats. Ideal for ground testing facilities, the XMA-BOX is also designed to cope with environmental conditions of small to large civil aircraft cabin. The XMA-BOX is an optimal fit for multiple data acquisition needs, as a single box or integrated in a larger FTI system all by ensuring state-of-the-art accuracy. 

MDR - Versatile Airborne Data Acquisition, Recording & Dissemination System

The MDR system enables data collection in complex and harsh airborne flight test environments. Its modular design enables a wide usability range from the lightest to the most extensive daily test requirements in terms of variety of signals to be recorded, environmental constraints and recording time. A wide range of signal interface modules tailored to the most common data sources and busses ensure that today’s and tomorrow’s requirements will be addressed. The modular MDR design provides the flexibility for choosing cost-effective systems or high-end FTI systems with high capacity storage media. There are mainframes available with 2, 4 or 8slots for signal interface modules. This configuration flexibility is completed by advanced data processing (filtering, decimation, etc.) and managing capabilities, including UDP and most sophisticated Chapter 7 version 2017 streaming techniques. 

MDR-GT - Hybrid Concept for Data Recording & Processing The Ultra-Fast Onboard FTI

The highly flexible platform concept of the MDR-GT family is technically based on a common mainframe with many high-end built-in interfaces and functions. Specific functions and requirements can be addressed by adding dedicated interface canisters (featuring signal interfaces and/or storage media). With a selection range from several mainframe variants and canister types together with a high number of signal modules, the MDR-GT offers configuration options for almost all applications and requirements.

Backward compatibility to all MDR modules is an additional benefit. Ultra-high data rates and storage capacities plus advanced data processing allow for extensive data recording and management.

This new digital telemetry transmitter supports PCM/FM, SOQPSK-TG and multi-h CPM modulations and provides 10W output power in S band. Many parameters (Modulation type, Carrier frequency, RF output power data rate and others) are configurable by software to meet most system requirements and to offer a complete solution to your data link needs. Small size, light weight and robustness make it ideal for integration in very limited space.

 The RX-1 is a small-size dual channel telemetry receiver with pre-D combiner that covers all IRIG frequency bands and all IRIG-specified modulations. This COTS product is based on the Cortex RTR technology bricks and inherits the well-recognized RF performance and signal processing capability. The RX-1 fits particularly well in the test range conditions and provides the most advanced features to maximize data availability. 

CORTEX-RTR

Zodiac data Systems Cortex-RTR is one of the most advanced digital telemetry receiver on the market with its well-recognized RF performance and signal processing capability. The 4U chassis-based Cortex RTR can support up to four channels providing flexibility and capability as well as a rich set of features for different frequency bands, modulations, decoders and output formats. Users can easily upgrade the equipment in the field to access additional and new features. The Cortex-RTR fits particularly well in flight tests ranges where flexibility and settings accessibility is important. Users operate this receiver with an embedded 8.4 inch screen and keyboard.

Military aircraft testing, helicopters, commercial aircraft and even launch vehicles: COMTRACK is an an affordable telemetry reception extension where a roomy and cumbersome parabolic system wouldn’t fit.

Safran Data System provides a range of telemetry services from TM equipment and tracking antenna leasing to comprehensive deployment of a turnkey station with operators to collect telemetry data from test flights or launch vehicles.


As part of the turnkey Telemetry service, Safran will select the TM products required based on the mission trajectory, find the optimized location to install the TM station, run all the pre-mission checkouts with the customer and operate the TM station during the mission to finally deliver the collected TM data on different media and format (RF, IF, PCM, Ethernet).
